Drupal Training in Scotland

Drupal has grown into a powerful platform, upon which many websites can be built without any coding knowledge. During the Sitebuilder Course you will learn how the building blocks of Drupal core and contributed modules link together to form a great website.

This course costs £ 250 launching in middle of January 2010, preliminary bookings are accepted with a 10% discount. It is dedicated to people with little, or no previous coding experience. It is a one day course, so rest well before, it will be fast-paced, this intensive 8 hours will cover most basic need-to-know pieces of information to enable you to build, configure and administer your own website.

Course coverage

• Getting Drupal - Answering the big question: what is Drupal? Where do modules come from? How does the community work? Also discussing briefly server-side requirements, and how to install Drupal.
• Configuring Drupal (installing modules, themes)
• User handling - Permission handling, user management.
• Content structure and management (blocks, nodes, CCK, taxonomy)
• Content display - brief introduction to contributed modules that help in customizing the way your content is visually organized (views, panels)
• Securing your site - What input formats mean, why keep your website up-to-date, possible dangers to your website not involving Drupal.
• Peeking into the future - Sneak peek into features Drupal 7 provides

If time allows we will also try writing a small module, or theme (or both!) to demonstrate how you can safely extend or replace existing functionality coming from other modules.

You are more than welcome to suggest a topic you would like to hear about, please tell us about it! We will also be building the site as the session goes ahead, so in order for you to profit as much as possible bring a laptop, preferably with a Linux or OS X system installed, ready to install Drupal.
