Skeleton of a mammoth of a million years found in Serbia
Events, Friday, August 26, 2011 17:20:31Serbian archaeologists have discovered the skeleton of a mammoth at around 1 million years AP. Miomir Korach of the Serbian Archaeological Institute reported that the skeleton was discovered in coal mine near Kostolac village in the eastern part of the country.
The skeleton was well preserved. Mammoth has been high for more than 4 meters, five meters long and weighed over 10 tons. The animal is called southern mammoth or mammuthus meridionalis, originating from northern Africa.
