Egypt bans ringtones with texts from the Koran

"It demeans the Holy Book and not suitable for use by people of faith. Call to prayer sounds five times a day from the mosques and not necessarily to hear from your mobile phones," says the fatwa. He added that if believers want their phones to ring tone to wear a religious nature "may use quotations from Islamic poetry and prose." Quranic ringtones are very popular in Egypt, where the number of mobile subscribers reached 50 million, and Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the Palestinian territories. Recently, a group of prominent Saudi scholars issued a fatwa like prohibiting "insulting the God" of this kind.
