Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko admitted that his political career depends on his close ties with Russia. When visiting the region on the Volga, he stated that any deviation from its proximity to Russia means "political death" for him, Reuters reported, citing the agency "Interfax".

Lukashenko is trying to improve relations with Western countries that criticize its policy on human rights and lack of democracy. But he tries to keep the vital economic relations of Belarus with Russia, but often wanders between acute charges against its leaders and assurances of solidarity with the larger neighbor, says Reuters.
