The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg condemned Italy for the presence of crucifixes in classrooms, which violates the right of parents to educate their children according to their beliefs and children's right to freedom of religion. Complainant is the Italian national Salts Lautsi living in Abano Terme, AFP reported.
Her two children, 11 and 13 years in 2001-2002 attended public school in the city where all the classrooms had a crucifix on the wall. According Lautsi presence of these crucifixes violated the principle of secular education.
